The adherence to oral antidiabetics ranges from 36% to 93% (1). Moreover, improving the adherence to treatment in diabetes patients will lead to a better glycaemic control and could in the longterm reduce the incidence of micro- and macrovascular complications associated with diabetes (2,3). Also, most MCA (medicine-compliance aids) patients are elderly and suffer of combined cardiovascular disease including diabetes (4). Gwyntwr1386 Pharmacy, intends to provide a new, online clinical delivery and treatment monitoring service for the NHS, which will be coupled to the NHSapp, based on digital medication adherence packaging such as blister-packs pill bottles, pre-filled syringes and monitoring POC devices such as the Free Libre Sensor and smart blood pressure monitors. The digital medi...

The role of apoliproteins in neurological disorders ISSN 2753-8176 (online)

The role of apoliproteins in neurological disorders - ISSN 2753-8176 (online) Ana Pedro 1 1 Gwyntwr1386 Social Pharmacy, Regus Chester Business Park, Heronsway, Chester, CH49QR, UK , info@gwyntwr1386.com, Apolipoproteins are “any of various proteins that combine with a lipid to form a lipoprotein, such as HDL and LDL”, or “The protein components of lipoproteins, which remain after the lipids to which the proteins are bound have been removed”(1). Apolipoproteins are reported to be linked to many neurodegenerative disorders. APOE plays a role in many brain disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, mild cognitive impairment, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) and maybe in more some others like Parkinson’s disease (PD) (2). We found out in a recent publication (3) that apoliproteins E (APOE) (total) and L1 (APOL1) are present in the plasma of autistic children and their parents but not in the plasma of their normal siblings. APO...

The effects of MTC analogues in the cell cycle, cytoskeleton and apoptosis pathways in HeLa cells Ana Pedro 1 1 Gwyntwr1386 Pharmacy, Regus Chester Business Park, Heronsway, Chester, CH49QR, UK MTC (2-Methoxy-5-(2’, 3’, 4’-trimethoxyphenyl)-2,4,6-cycloheptatrien-1-one) is a bicyclic colchine analogue synthesized by Fitzgerald (1) and induces microtubule disruption quickly and reversibly (2, 3) leading to a G2/M cell cycle arrest what culminates in apoptosis in human leukemic cells (Gajate et al, 2000, 4). In order to unveil what MTC molecule parts or functional groups are important in G2/M arrest and apoptosis triggering, MTC analogues TKB, TCB, TMB were tested in different concentrations (Fig.1). MTC does nor have the B ring of colchicine (green arrow) and MTC analogues miss the carbonyl group of MTC (blue arrow). Cell cycle analysis We found that at 10-6, TCB and TMB did not exert any significant effect in HeLa cells, at 10-5 M, TMB arrested cells in G2/M ...

B-cell lymphoma-extra large (Bcl-xL), is a member of the Bcl-2 family of proteins. It is a transmembrane molecule localized in the mitochonria and acts as an anti-apoptotic protein by preventing the release of mitochondrial contents such as cytocrome c, which leads to caspase activation and ultimately, apoptosis triggering (5). Here we analyse the events which occur during the tran...

HeLa is the oldest human cell line which is derived from cervical cancer cells taken on 1951, from Henrietta Lacks, a 31-year-old African-American (4). Here we analyse the action of MTC in HeLa cells. Time-course of MTC in Hela cells In the present study our goal was to characterize the action of MTC on solid tumor cell lines such as HeLa. To this aim, HeLa cells were introduced with MTC (1μm) during different treatment hours. We found that HeLa c...
